Sometimes you find
yourself in front of a screen, while your mind is racing and you have so much
to say but have absolutely no idea how to put it across. You find your heart
pounding and your pulse racing and one singular question pops up into your head.
What is love?
What is love?
Is it
sacrifice? Is it making someone happy? Is it just an emotion? Which all humans
at some point in their lives have to experience or is it just a waste of time?
Its
truly a debatable topic, and while couples around the world celebrate every
single moment they spend with each other, we still have those fairly unhappy
people wondering whether they’re with the right person or not.
Now
before we get to love, lets discuss what is happiness.
As
defined by a popular online dictionary, “Happiness,
gladness or joy is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by
positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy”
All of us have definitely
experienced happiness sometime or the other in our lives. It’s causes ranging
from personal satisfaction to exterior things such as materialist gifts and
pleasure. But one thing constant about this state, is that it’s very temporary.
Shopping makes you happy for a day while getting selected into your favorite
university might extend that happiness to a week or a month. But then again,
that’s the fine line between happiness and bliss, but that’s a topic for a
different time.
I believe humans have a tendency of regulating love. They filter out their emotions based on what they think is needed and can be truly expressed to their partners. As said by a very famous author, “We Accept The Love We Think We Deserve” which according to me is one of the most true quotes out there. Humans as a species love undervaluing themselves, and blame others when they might be the cause of their own misfortunes and state.

This 4 letter word, on the mouth of
all those lovebirds out there wanting to settle down with their partners, might
be the most overused word in the history of mankind.
Do you truly get happiness when you
try to make them happy? If yes, do you still get pissed when your efforts are
given no value?
Do you entertain all the nuances and whims of your partners expecting there to be a better day when they might not have any? If yes, have you still seen the light of that day?
Do you entertain all the nuances and whims of your partners expecting there to be a better day when they might not have any? If yes, have you still seen the light of that day?
Do you feel elated one second and
downtrodden and sad the other? If yes, have you ever asked yourself why?
Its not about loving the person
you’re with. Its about knowing that love is good for you. Its about knowing
that the love you are getting is the love you deserve. Its about knowing that
what you get might always be a little less than what you offer, and with you
being at peace with that scenario.
Love is and can be the most
beautiful thing on this planet. It makes us want to be better people, it makes
us want to do great things for the people you love, pushing our boundaries and
making us do things we never thought we could.
It’s a very true and basic concept, but as the
Bee Gees said and said well, “Its only words, & words are all I have, to
take your heart away.”
